Last Saturday, Nov 17, was a beautiful day; cool, sunny and perfect for running through the woods.
Ten different schools participated in the meet. Some entered multiple teams. There were a total of
130 high school competitors. For the first time, we had some college entrants. Two students from
Western Kentucky University, who had competed while in high school, ran a Red course set up
especially for them.

Apollo High School, once again, took the team title. That's no surprise but what was surprising was
that it was the Apollo Ladies who took the trophy. That's right. A team of 5 girls beat the boys.
The Apollo team was composed of Brittany Ellzey, Melissa Shaw, Keasha Briant, Megan Fillback and
Amy Kuegel. The girls did have a little assistance in that their course was 13% shorter than the
boys course. Their score (top three times on a team) was 258:17 with the second team (also from
Apollo) at 296:46. North Bullitt was third in 319:22.

The overall female winner was Mary Hamilton with a time of 66:32 over the 4.48km course. Brittany
Ellzey was second in 71:45 and Melissa Shaw was third. On the boy's side, Justin Joiner of Hopkins
County took home the gold in 68:54. Apollo's Derek McCarty was next in 77:51 with Jacob Cates of
Madisonville North Hopkins in third at 91:35.

In the Junior Varsity race, Harrison County was first with a time of 211:03. Individually they had
the first two places; Sammy Katz (51:24) and Nathanial Elrod (53:35). North Bullitt was second in
224:24, with the individual female winner, Allison Underwood (69:43) leading the way.

In the novice division, William Miller, of Bowling Green high school, was first. Running the 3.3km
course in 22:50. Tyler Reeder of Warren East was second in 28:50.

Mattingly was 12 points back with 98. The first high school team was Stephen Luttrell and Chris
Hixson, of Apollo, with a score of 69.
