For the second year in a row, the National Orienteering Day meet was held in Cherokee Park.
Rich Mazzoli and I streamered the courses on a Friday the week before the meet. We met Arnie
Franklin at sunrise the day of the meet and hung the controls in about 90 minutes. Sherry
Gowens set up Registration and was ready to go when the people began to arrive. Dan Mattingly and Rich took care of Training and had their hands full as there were plenty who
requested the training. We had 146 run the courses and everyone seemed to enjoy the day as the weather was perfect.
The results will follow this report. I want to thank Sherry and Jeff and Mary Hamilton for help
withy Registration. Arnie helped set controls, worked the start and finish and picked up controls.
Dan did a great job with training. Thanks to all from Apollo who helped to post the results. A
special thanks to my buddy Rich who did it all from start to finish. There would not have been
a meet without him. Results are attached. Dan Mattingly won the Brown in 49:19 with Jeff Hamilton in second in 57:12 On the Orange, Bob Stauble of Apollo HS was first in 51:44 and the Keefes (Doug and Diana)
were second in 1:02:10 The winner on Yellow was Louie Smith in 32:27 with Tommy Brooks, of Harrison County, in
second at 38:03. I want to also say that it was great to see John Distler back in action. I look forward to the day that
he again takes control of the Deam Lake meet. Welcome back John! Rich and I are already working on the Rogaine. Donít forget the Mt. St. Francis Night-O on
October 6th at 9 p.m. Thank you, Jim Carter
